Biography

With such a name, could he ever escape from a jazzman destiny ? Born in Paris in 1987, Dexter is the son of musiciancs. He started music through percussions at first and quickly got into composition and imprivisation. He started playing piano only at 16 but soon fructify his creativness. From 2007 he strats to study with Olivier Hutman, Misja Fitzgerald and Philippe Baudoin. In 2010 he is recruited in ZeBigBand by american saxophonist Ricky Ford (Charles Mingus, McCoy Tyner...) for two albums : « 7095 » and « Sacred Concert ». He also encounter drummer Sangoma Everett with whom Dexter will tour abroad. Dexter then joins the jazz section of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris where he studies with Pierre de Bethmann Dré Paellmaerts, François Thébèrge and Riccardo Del Fra. On the same year he is called by no other than Benny Golson to play at the festival « Les Tombées de la Nuit  ». He also records his father, saxophonist Michel Goldberg's third album « Pure Imagination » and appears in various formations such as the Ricky Ford Duo, Robin Mansanti Trio. In 2014 he wins first prize at Paris Conservatory and then forms up his first trio alongside Bertrand Beruard on double bass and Kevin Luchetti on drums. They earn the « Fresh Sound » plan as well as the Honor Prize of « Concours International Léopold Bellan ». From 2015, Dexter's talent and work grows in recognition and he starts playing as a leader in french forefront venues such as Sunset-Sunside, Festival Jazz à l'Ouest, Le Prysme. He also plays a lot as a sideman with Ralph Moore, Gene Perla, Jason Marsalis, Steve McCraven, John Betsch and more... After a tour in Quebec in trio, Dexter records his first album « Tell Me Something New » on label jazz&people in 2018, which has a warm welcome by french press. He then played in major festivals : Jazz In Marciac, Marseille Jazz des Cinq Continents, Jazz à Vienne, Avignon Jazz Festival, Saint-Omer Jazz Festival, L’Anglet Jazz Festival) In 2022, he now works on his second album.
